Phantom Abyss is a trek into a lost and trap-filled temple that constantly has you on your toes. Each room is filled with several ways to die, or at least take a good amount of damage, and the constant pressure from the guardian means you have to think while moving. While there's something to be said for tearing through the level at top speed, the rooms are frequently interesting enough that it would be nice to stop and look around for a minute without being pushed forward.

Players can share Temple Codes for their failed runs allowing friends to attempt the same temple or share their Adventure Code which yields a playlist of temples that a player has attempted in the past. System Requirements

Phantom Abyss is a roguelike game. You navigate through procedurally generated temples in search of relics while avoiding traps and guardians.

Phantom Abyss is a game where players dive into a series of procedurally-generated temples where they have to reach the end and secure the golden idol. Players will be faced with a wide variety of classic traps along the way, as well as facing off against the Guardian of the temple who will try to hinder the players progress.

So, it’s a platforming rogue-lite. I’m good with that. Collecting these treasures will extend your own abilities, such as granting a double jump or lengthening the duration of your slide. You also have a whip, which can be used to swing yourself around.

Be warned, you only get one attempt at each temple and failure or settling for a lesser relic means you Phantom Abyss Speedrun will never see that temple again… The cleverest players will use the phantom runs of failed attempts from other players to their advantage and avoid the missteps and mistakes that led to their doom.

For example, while flying through the mossy ancient tombs, I often found myself scrambling at walls and ledges after my flow was interrupted by my grappling hook/whip falling short of its target.

An ancient temple full of traps has a treasure at the very end, and you want it. Armed with your trusty whip, you'll race through the temple, avoiding dangerous pitfalls and angry temple guardians. Unfortunately, if you die, you'll never be able to try this particular iteration of the temple again.

I’ve been playing Phantom Abyss since it first entered early access and I will not be stopping anytime soon now it’s officially launched. The adrenaline-fuelled gameplay gives me so much joy every time I do a run, whether I’m playing it casually or seriously trying to challenge myself.
